Chambre69 Presents
The Japanese Popstars (live)
Chambre69
29th July 2011
11pm-3am
£8/10

Chambre69 presents The Japanese Popstars (live) as part of the Piece Together Club night.

The Japanese Popstars are ravenous. Since they first tasted success in 2006 with their first two releases on a small indie dance label, their career has been one smooth, upward curve. But now that line is about to take a sharp rise vertically. Fresh from their Rockness appearance, The Japanese Popstars are going to be playing an Intimate club show in Glasgow.

Chambre69 is Glasgow's newest underground venue, coming in at a 450 capacity. Already played host to the likes of Andy Weatherall (Primal Scream after party), Martyn, Braiden & Billy Woods plus a whole host of Glasgow’s club nights including No Sleep, Deadly Rhythm and Ange Noir.

Based at 69 Nelson Mandela place, the club is 30 seconds from Buchannan Street Underground and is a 2 minute walk to Queen St and Central Stations. Busses also stop right across the road at George Square.

MIXMAG: “THE MOST EXCITING NEW ELECTRONIC ACT ON THE PLANET”

DJ MAG: “ONE PART KITSUNE STYLE DISTORTO-RAVE, ONE PART CLASSIC STADIUM DANCE THE LIKES OF WHICH WE HAVEN’T SEEN SINCE ORBITAL”

POPJUSTICE: “F*CKING AMAZING”

Tickets are available from www.ticketweb.co.uk  or 24/7 on 08444 77 1000 and also at Ticket Scotland.

SELECTIVE SERVICE

unknown.tiff

Winter is over folks, and what a winter it was.  From our point of view, it meant a 13 hour journey home from Elgin at the end of November.  At times the snowfall was so thick we couldn't see 10 feet in front of us.  Had we not been in Dundee the night before, I doubt we would have even been able to get to Elgin in the first place - all other bands and even the soundmen were unable to get there, but precarious as the journey was, we made do with a makeshift PA and gave everyone a great night.  This epitomised the whole tour actually, every night of which was extremely enjoyable.  We didn't hang about once it was finished though.  We had written a lot of new music on the road and we went straight back into the studio between Christmas and new year to record the follow up EP, which will be entitle "You Best Believe".  Here's the track listing:

1. You Best Believe
2. The Merchant
3. Cathy Bennett
4. In The Kingdom

It was recorded once again at La Chunky Studios with the reliably enigmatic Ronan Breslin.  The result is undoubtedly the best sounding record that any of us have been involved in, and that's totally down to Ronan and his love for the songs.

We are now gearing towards the launch night for the EP on Saturday April 30th, at Glasgow's newest nightclub space, Chambre69.  This is the brainchild of those responsible for bringing the Bier Halle to Glasgow, so as you can imagine, the vibe is all important.  It really is a great space, and perfect for what we are wanting to achieve for this event.  The night will commence at 9pm with a champagne reception, followed by an extended live set from the band at around 10pm.  We are delighted to welcome Kasabian tour DJ DanRalphMartin as our guest, this being his first visit to Scotland without the band.  To get Dan up here is something we have been discussing for a long time, and we finally have the perfect event and venue to make it happen.  This is all going on till 3am, not your typical record launch I'm sure you'll agree!

Before all that however, we have an instore performance at Pretty Green's Glasgow store this coming Saturday, April 16th.  We were delighted when the guys at PG asked us to do this, and we'll be on stage at around 3pm.  So if your in town on Saturday afternoon please pop in.

Finally please make sure you check out our new website at www.selective-service.co.uk

We have some new photos up there and you can preview the tracks from the new EP as well.

Thanks for reading and hope to see you at Chambre69 on the 30th!

BIG AUDIO DYNAMITE

BIG AUDIO DYNAMITE
OFFICIAL AFTERSHOW PARTY PRESS RELEASE

As with all great shows, comes a great aftershow party. After hosting Andrew Weatherall for Primal Scream's Screamadelica aftershow party, we've decided new club Chambre69 as the perfect venue. With a live set from
Rotten Hill Gang and with a DJ set from
BiLLy iDLe formerly of the Hacienda, NiCe ‘n’ iDLe (Howard Marks) and Manumission this looks set to be quite the night.

Big Audio Dynamite (later known as Big Audio Dynamite IIBig Audio, and often abbreviated to BAD) are a British musical group formed in 1984 by ex-guitarist and singer of The Clash, Mick Jones. The group is noted for their effective mixture of varied musical styles, incorporating elements of punk rock, dance music, hip hop, reggae, and funk. BAD's one constant throughout frequent shifts in membership and musical direction are the vocals provided by Mick Jones. After releasing a number of well-received albums and touring extensively throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Big Audio Dynamite disbanded in 1997, but have announced a reunion as of January 2011.

Supporting Big Audio Dynamite on their UK Tour are Rotten Hill Gang. This motley crew are a Dickensian Hip Hop band with its tales of old and new London - stories as putrid as decaying vegetables at the end of a day in Portobello Road market and as uplifting and elevating as the sun rising over the Westway. RHG comprise of Gary Stonadge AKA Dirty White ex-bassist and songwriter of BAD II, AndrĂ© Shapps keyboard player/ producer in BAD IIReds a local rapper from the Portobello rd area of London. Angelic singers Hollie Cook (daughter of Sex Pistol Paul Cook) and Hayley Smith take care of the vocals, whilst Mallet of Transvision Vamp provides the beat.
